Don't be a commodity


If you’re a technology executive in what most people consider a commoditized function, there are things you can do to really stand out to executive recruiters.


If people look at your title and immediately think that you’re simply executing orders coming from somewhere else, it’s time to take control of your story.


Technology is changing so quickly and unexpected functions are driving the business.


Look at what has been happening with data over the years, and how popular those people are now 😊


There will be another crop of folks coming through.


When you’re asked “So… what do you do?” or “Tell me about yourself...”


Talk about the business impact first.


Talk about why you joined the company, the state of things then, and where you are today. Not just from a tech perspective but from a business perspective. Talk about business relationships and who you interface with. Talk about products you developed. Talk about your customer or your customer’s customer.


Talk about the evolution of your team.


Then talk about technology.
